Why the form of a nutrient changes everything
A nutrient listed on a label tells you what is in the capsule — not what your body can actually absorb and use. Bioavailability refers to the portion of a nutrient that reaches your bloodstream in an active form. Two supplements listing the same vitamin can deliver wildly different results depending on the chemical form, the cofactors included, and how the formula is delivered.
For fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K), taking them with a meal that contains some dietary fa improves uptake. For minerals, chelated forms — where the mineral is bound to an amino acid — tend to survive stomach acid intact and absorb more efficiently through the intestinal wall.
